With this result, Colombia secure, at minimum, second place in Group B, clinching a spot in the quarterfinals. Puerto Rico will await the results of Wednesday's matches to see if they advance.
Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego welcomed the last matchday of Group B on Tuesday evening, the first game seeing a 2-0 Colombia win against Puerto Rico.
With this result, Colombia secure, at minimum, second place in Group B, clinching a spot in the quarterfinals. Puerto Rico will await the results of Wednesday's matches to see if they advance.
Colombia came into the contest following their loss to Brazil, while Puerto Rico had a last-minute win against Panama.
Wanting to use the momentum from their last match, Puerto Rico FW Juelle Love tried to surprise Colombian GK Natalia Giraldo in the 2’, the Cafetera ready to stop her early chance.
Colombia took their first lead since their first match in the 16’ when FW Manuela Pavi controlled a cross from the left, leaving the ball for FW Maria Usme to beat Puerto Rico GK Sydney Martinez for a 1-0 lead.
Las Boricuas tried to pull one back before the halftime whistle in the 45’+3 when captain and MF Nickolette Driesse launched a powerful shot from outside the área. Giraldo touched the ball enough to hit the crossbar and maintain the Colombian advantage.
The second goal of the evening for Colombia came in the 53’ from the boots of sensation FW Linda Caicedo, who got the ball on the left side close to the area, dribbled between two Puerto Rican defenders and shot into the top right corner, getting her second goal in the tournament.
Puerto Rico gave a last push to close the gap, but the Colombia defensive line held firm to secure the clean sheet.

Playing for all or nothing, Puerto Rico and Panama faced each other for the first time in history at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego California on Saturday evening, Las Boricuas getting a 2-1 win, positioning themselves in third place of Group B.
Panama, the team that stunned the world at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup started on high, with MF Marta Cox taking a shot from the distance in the 22’, looking to give her team their first goal in the tournament as she did in Australia, her efforts ending in a corner kick.
They kept their momentum going and from a great counterattack play, DF Carina Baltrip assisted MF Natalia Mills in the 27’ from the right side of the pitch, the Captain getting past the defensive line, including star GK Sydney Martinez, shooting for the first goal of Panama in the W Gold Cup.
Baltrip saw the back of the net in the 57’, however, it was called offside due to the previous position of DF Hilary Jaen, the Canaleras only up by one goal still.
Puerto Rico didn’t stop fighting, finding an equalizer in the 73’ thanks to the efforts of Madison Cox, who got her header into the back of the net from a corner kick.
Las Boricuas showed resilience as they did in the Prelims finding a late goal in the 90’+3’ from an open play, a brilliant filtered pass from MF Kennedy Garcia to MF Danielle Julia Marcano, who got past Panama’s defensive line, shooting for their second goal, giving Puerto Rico their first win in the W Gold Cup.

Brazil scored a goal nine minutes before the end and defeated Puerto Rico in the second match of Group B of the Concacaf W Gold Cup on Wednesday night at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.
Puerto Rico GK Sydney Martinez was key at the beginning of the match, just as she was in the Prelims, in stopping early balls coming her way from the Brazilian offensive line.
The Joga Bonito of Brazil came to life in the 21’ after FW Debinha sent a backheel pass to DF Beatriz Ferreira, who sent a low ball to the right side of Puerto Rico area, but the ball sailed wide.
Las Boricuas tried to get a goal in the 22’ when Captain Nickolette Driesse took a chance with a long-distance effort from outside the área, with Brazilian GK Luciana tipping it over the crossbar.
In one last effort for Brazil in the first half in the 45’+2, Debinha tried to get the scoring going, only to hit the post with her effort.
After another shot off the post in the second half, La Verde-Amarela finally managed to break Martinez's lock in the 81’ thanks to a collective play with an assist coming from the right side. FW Gabi Nunes, who was substituted in during the second half, connected with the ball at the back post to give Brazil the late win.
Brazil will face Colombia to try to get to the top of Group B, whereas Puerto Rico will take the field against Panama to get their first points next Saturday evening.
